O Lord Hayagriva! There are several sasthra:s but I have not mastered even one of them: that is, I am not worthy of knowledge; I did not even serve or study under great scholars who are learned in various sasthra:s. I did not even bathe in sacred rivers at places of pilgrimage. I did not perform the prescribed duties (karma:s). Without these how could devotion arise? I am ignorant of everything. I have no hope. Like an inanimate thing I surrender unto You. You are generous towards the destitute and protect them. I am impoverished, I am also not easily satisfied whatever be Your grace, which is why I deserve ever anew Your grace.

Grant me the wealth of knowledge in abundance, Lord!
